About
Write Side
Have you ever thought “someone needs to write these stories down before we forget them”? I would like to help you preserve those stories with my services!
Write Side is owned and operated by me: a Saskatchewan born biographer, autoethnographer and academic. Through my work in qualitative research, I have noticed how much value lies in capturing and sharing our stories for a multitude of reasons, and how few people actually sit down to do it.
I have years of first-hand qualitative research experience and have been a life-long creative writer. I would love to create a keepsake for you from your stories and memories!
How it works
The consultation will dictate how we move forward in telling your stories!
It is a good plan to have an idea of your expectations before the consultation so we can accurately assess your needs. The best outcomes result when we focus the collection on only one person or one event.
I will make a recommendation on which package seems like the right fit, and we will sign an agreement of work contract which will include outcomes, who will attend discussions, payment and timeline. I will always endeavour to be up front about costs and will not take on more writing than I can manage in a reasonable period of time.
I will sit with the person(s) who are participating for multiple sessions, using my interviewing skills to create clear stories that I can craft for you!
All discussions will be audio-recorded, and the full recording(s) will be given to you along with the crafted stories once the service has concluded. You may also request a printed copy of the raw transcription.

Cost reflections
If you have never worked with a professional writer before, it makes sense to wonder just exactly what you are paying for. Here are a few brief points to help explain why the costs of writing are what they are.
The biggest consideration is the time commitment from the biographer. The time for scheduling and sitting down for the allotted discussion periods as well as the transcription of the conversations which are incredibly time-consuming and will be multiplied depending on the number of people partaking in the discussion(s).
Inevitably, references are made to actual places, events and people, and so there is always some background research conducted to ensure the final presented timeline makes sense.
A big consideration is also the complexity of the stories and the difficulty in arranging those complexities from a conversation into a narrative. This takes a lot of time and careful thought.
If photos, maps, or other additional documents are to be included, this also takes time for smooth and appropriate integration into the final text.
The final cost will include outcomes such as to bind or not bind the stories into a book, the printed-out transcript, and an external storage device of the recorded discussion(s).
Editing can take much longer than the actual writing. In order to ensure a quality final product, at least two to three edits would typically be conducted.
